Devising Drama: Improvisation Skills 1
Students learn the basics of drama work through a multi-technique scheme of work based on the theme of Outer Space. They then progress to developing key improvisational skills in 2’s and 3’s including characterisation and scene structure. |
Devising Drama: Improvisation Skills 2
Students learn how to create contrasting characters by playing various roles in a sequence of lessons where they explore the Haunted School. They then move on to developing their improvisational skills in groups of 3 or 4. |

Students explore various extracts from published play scripts. They consider issues such as staging, characterisation, themes and plot from a practical angle. |

Students learn how to effectively create tension and conflict in drama scenes. They learn a range of stage combat moves such as slaps, hair-pulls, punches, kicks and strangulations to equip them with a range of physical techniques for use in future practical work. |

Students learn the conventions of naturalism in theatre with a focus on the acting techniques originated by Stanislavski and the Kitchen Sink theatre movement of the 1950s and 1960s. |

Students are introduced to the methods and practices of devising a substantial piece of drama from a choice of stimuli provided by the exam board. They work collaboratively to produce a piece of theatre in their chosen style and then complete a written evaluation of the work for mock assessment. |
Component 2: Performing from a Text
Students rehearse and perform a key extract from a published playscript for mock assessment. |
Component 3: Interpreting Theatre
Students are introduced to the exam set text, DNA by Dennis Kelly, which they read and explore from a practical angle. |
