Grade Ladder – Practicals
W Level 1 pass
  • Follows all basic hygiene rules- hands/apron/hair consistently
  • Knows most names, able to choose frequently used equipment correctly
  • Needs some teacher help to make basic recipes
  • Able to weigh and measure with some accuracy
  • Can turn on the hob and oven, may need prompting 
  • Cuts/shapes in fairly neat shapes, with some accuracy, but uneven sizes
  • Needs occasional advice to judge if the recipe is cooked
Level 1 pass
  • Follows all basic hygiene rules- hands/apron/hair without being prompted
  • Can name and usually chooses correct equipment and uses it correctly
  • Needs occasional teacher help to make basic recipes 
  • Able to weigh and measure accurately
  • Turns on the hob or oven without being prompted
  • Cuts/ shapes in neat shapes quite accurately, though maybe uneven sizes
  • Occasionally needs advice to judge if the recipe is cooked
Level 2 Pass
  • Follows all personal hygiene rules without prompting, generally keeps work area clean 
  • Can name and chooses almost all correct equipment, uses it with more accuracy
  • Rarely needs teacher help to make recipes with basic and some medium skill recipes
  • Able to weigh and measure accurately
  • Turns on the hob/oven without being prompted. Advice occasionally may be needed to control heat to boil or simmer
  • Cuts/shapes ingredients in neat shapes accurately, fairly even sizes
  • Rarely needs advice to judge if the recipe is cooked
  • Present recipes neatly
Level 2 Merit
  • Follows all personal hygiene rules without prompting, keeps work area clean and tidy most of the time
  • Can name and chooses all correct equipment and uses it accurately
  • Rarely needs teacher help to make medium skill recipes 
  • Able to weigh and measure accurately
  • Turns on the hob/oven without prompting. Advice rarely needed to control heat.
  • Cuts/shapes ingredients in neat shapes accurately, in even sizes
  • Rarely needs advice to judge if the recipe is cooked
  • Present recipes attractively
  • Able to solve problems with little help
Level 2 Distinction
  • Follows all personal hygiene rules without prompting, keeps work area clean, tidy almost all the time
  • Chooses all correct equipment and uses a range of equipment accurately
  • Make complex recipes competently and with confidence
  • Able to weigh and measure accurately
  • Turns on the hob/oven without prompting. No advice needed to control heat.
  • Cuts/ shapes ingredients in neat shapes accurately, in even sizes
  • Needs no advice to judge if recipe is cooked
  • Present recipes very attractively
  • Able to solve problems with minimal advice
Level 2 Distinction*
  • Follows all personal hygiene rules automatically, keeps work area clean, tidy at all times
  • Chooses all correct equipment and uses a wide range of equipment accurately
  • Make complex recipes with exceptional competence and with confidence
  • Able to weigh and measure accurately
  • Turns on the hob/oven without prompting. No advice needed to control heat.
  • Cuts/ shapes ingredients in neat shapes accurately, in even sizes
  • Needs no advice to judge if the recipe is cooked
  • Present recipes faultlessly and creatively, worthy of being sold
  • Able to solve problems independently
  • Is able to establish priorities for precision and control.
