Players perform consistently to a high level in attack and defence passing, shooting and dribbling with fluency and pace. Defensively strong and tactically aware. Most core skills are demonstrated to a good standard and advanced skills are attempted with some success. Core skills are evident in games with strong passing, catching and dribbling. Advanced skills will be attempted with some success in shooting and dribbling off both hands. Successfully selects and uses appropriate skills on some occasions. Demonstrates a good understanding of the activity.

Core skills have some consistency. Some advanced skills attempted but with little success. Core skills can be demonstrated in isolated practice but with less fluency and accuracy in games. Performs several core skills in isolation. Some advanced skills are evident. Passing, catching and dribbling with little accuracy and consistency; players can take a role within a game. Advanced skills may be attempted in practice but with poor control and accuracy. Successfully selects and uses appropriate skills on some occasions. Demonstrates some understanding of the activity.

Performs some core skills in isolation. Very few advanced skills are attempted. Core skills are performed but passing and catching lacks any accuracy and consistency. Performers struggle to show any control when dribbling. Little game awareness. Successfully selects and uses appropriate skills on few occasions. Demonstrates little understanding of the activity.
W3 Performs few core skills in isolation. Advanced skills are not attempted or evident.  Will catch and pass in isolation but little involvement in a game. Rarely selects and uses appropriate skills successfully. Demonstrates limited understanding of the activity.
W2 Some participation in activities. Some basic development of core skills. Some catches are occasionally made but passing lacks any power and control. Rarely selects and uses appropriate skills successfully. Demonstrates limited understanding of the activity.
W1 Very little participation in activities. Little evidence of skill development. Struggles to catch and pass the ball. No involvement in the game. Shows little or no understanding of the activity.

Advanced Skills

  • Catching (one handed assisted on both sides)
  • Dribbling with either/ both hands
  • Passing: jumping forward/ vertical jump
  • Shooting: Vertical Jump Shot, Striding jump shot, Shot whilst falling
  • Offensive and Defensive Movement:
    • Stealing the ball
    • Screening an opponent without a ball
    • Screening an opponent with the ball

Core Skills

  • Catching: two handed including from the bounce and jumping
  • Dribbling– dominant hand
  • Passing: Standing and Running
  • Shooting: Shot in place, leaning back shot
  • Offensive and defensive movement: Feinting with the body, a shot and a pass.

Tactics

  • When and where to pass/shoot/dribble
  • Awareness of attacking and defensive strategies and positions
  • Awareness of strengths and weaknesses  of other players
  • Awareness of the rules
  • Positioning and organisation at defensive set pieces
