Students will study biology topics looking at cells, the body and reproduction. Skills such as microscopy and planning will also be introduced. | Physic topics will be covered including work on forces and light. Students will also look at investigation skills and interpreting information. | Students will study Chemistry topics looking at particles. They will complete practical work on separating materials, working on planning and analysis skills and using these in various contexts. | The second biology topic looks at the human body and introducing the ideas behind how the complex systems work together in our bodies. The students will use models to describe and explain systems in the body. | The second physics topic will look at motion and waves. It will build on previous work on using models in science and taking forward and improving practical and analysis skills. | The final Chemistry topic covers acids and bases and allows students to complete various practical activities This introduces them to risk assessments and methods of working safely with dangerous chemicals, as well as looking at the reactions of metals. |

Students start off the year by looking at the cycles of the Earth, including carbon and rock cycles, leading onto the seasons and the solar system. | Students take an in-depth look at the digestive system and how the body breaks down food as well as what is required for a healthy diet. This builds on the practical skills and modelling from Y7. | The Physics section of Y8 starts with looking at electricity and how it works. This will include lots of practical work as well as planning and analysis skills | The remainder of Y8 will focus on preparing students for the their GCSE course which starts in Y9. The skills that have been introduced in Y7 and 8 will be built upon and key topics and concepts will be cemented to give them the best possible start to their GCSE lessons in science. |
