Students from Year 9 and Year 10 took part in the recent SHE Can project running across Sheffield and Rotherham…
Students in Y11 recently had a hugely successful day working alongside over 50 visitors from all walks of industry and employment.
Many of the visitors ran workshops outlining the employment opportunities in their specialist areas all of which are experiencing growth in our local economy. Workshops covered Health Care (Andrea Fox from the University of Sheffield), Creative & Digital (HIVE IT) , Sport (Chris Siddall from RMBC) , Travel & Tourism (Dearne Valley College), Construction (Keepmoat), Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AMRC) and Business & Enterprise from our alumni student Charlotte Scothern who has set up her own retail company Patchwork Pig.
All students also experienced a mock interview with an employer and attended sessions on applying for college, using resources such as the National Careers Service and receiving tutoring on completing their personal statements. Staff from the Department of Work and Pensions rang an employability session and the University of Bradford offered us an insight into University Life.
‘Skills Made Easy’ offered students a workshop on apprenticeships and students and staff from Rotherham College ran a much appreciated session on ‘Stepping up to Success’ as students move on to college. It was a very busy but informative day for the students and helped set them on their way for progress after competing Year 11.
Thank you to all the visitors who helped to make it ‘real’ for the students and to our colleagues from CAPITA for launching the day with inspiration and chocolates!
