Annual Belgium Trip
Tuesday 5th April 2016

During the holidays 28 Year 9 and 10 students returned from the annual History visit to Ypres in Belgium to explore the First World War Battlefields.

During the stay students visited sites in Belgium and France which were important during the First World War, and paid their respects at a number of memorials to the dead and missing. These included Tyne Cot Cemetery near Ypres which is the largest Commonwealth cemetery and memorial in the world, we also visited Thiepval Memorial on the Somme in France which is hosting the centenary commemorations for the Battle of the Somme in the summer.

The visit ended with the school playing a part in the Menin Gate ceremony where our students laid a wreath on behalf of the school. The students were an absolute pleasure to take on the trip and all of them deserve praise for their conduct and interest whilst there. Plans are already in place for Belgium 2017 and places on the trip are sure to fill up fast.
