Belgium 2019 – Year 8, 9 and 10 History visit
Another exciting five day trip to Ypres in Belgium has been organised for 2019. This trip offers students the chance to visit the historic battlefields of the First World War and gain for themselves a unique “hands-on” experience
We are hoping to leave school on the morning of Thursday 11th April and will travel by coach to Dover where we will board the Eurotunnel train to France. From there we will travel into the Flanders area of Belgium. The group will stay at the Menin Gate hotel for four nights in Ypres. All meals will be provided from Saturday evening until our departure home on the morning of Monday 15th April.
The trip is available for any students in Years 8, 9 and 10 and helps students to gain a deeper understanding of the area and the role British soldiers played in the First World War.
During our stay, we will visit a section of trenches which formed the front line of fighting during the First World War and this, together with the excellent museums will allow students to obtain a real insight into what is a fascinating, if tragic, event from our past. We will also travel down to the Somme and visit the areas which played a crucial part in the 1916 battle. On one of the evenings we will witness the moving Menin Gate ceremony in Ypres, in which we participate by laying a wreath on behalf of the school.
Any students interested in going can get a letter from the Humanities workroom in E block or parents can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
