On the last week of term, our Wickersley hearing impaired students were joined by other hearing impaired students from across Rotherham to attend a full day of workshops on Wednesday 19th July. The students were aged from 5 years to 16 years.
The day was run by a charity “Music and the Deaf” the musicians Danny Lane and Sarah McWatt led the groups with the support of Mr Dixon, Head of Wickersley Music department. The HI Students also supported by Teachers of the deaf and Communication Support Workers.
The children engaged in a variety of musical activities which gave them access to a range of musical vibrations and resonance of sound. They had great fun engaging and experiencing different types of instruments and working in small groups which helped them to form new friendships, as some of the children attending from other schools are the only HI child in their school.
All students were fully engaged and gained new experiences and appreciation of the variety of ways to access music and express their own creativity. A great day was had by all. I would
I would like to thank Music and the Deaf and all staff involved for a great day. Also a thank you to Wickersley Catering staff who put on superb buffet lunch.
