At the end of the previous half term 58 students from years 10, 11, 12 and 13 visited the British…
After such a successful trip this year, another exciting 5 day trip to Belgium has been organised for 2016. This trip offers students the chance to visit the historic battlefields of the First World War. We are hoping to leave school on the morning of Thursday 17th March and will travel by coach to Dover where we will board the Eurotunnel train to France. From there we will travel into the Flanders area of Belgium. The group will stay at the Menin Gate hotel for 4 nights in Ypres. Accommodation will be in bedrooms of 3 or 4 beds and all meals will be provided from Friday evening until our departure on the morning of Monday 21st March.
During our stay we will visit a section of trenches which formed the front line of fighting during the First World War and this, together with the excellent museums will allow students to obtain a real insight into what is a fascinating, if tragic, event from our past. We will also travel down to the Somme and visit the areas which played a crucial part in the 1916 battle. On one of the evenings we will witness the moving Menin Gate ceremony in Ypres, in which we participate by laying a wreath on behalf of the school. Some short periods of free time for shopping will be allowed in areas where staff feel this is safe. If you feel that this facility should not be offered to your son/daughter, please inform us and arrangements will be made for him/her to remain with staff during those occasions.
If you wish for your son/daughter to be considered for the trip, please complete the attached slip and return it to Mrs Tyson in the English Workroom by Friday 22nd May along with a non-refundable deposit of £50. A further deposit of £60 will be required by the end of September. The balance is to be paid by the beginning of January 2016. All payments will be made through Parent Pay which is the schools online payment system.
