A group of Wickersley’s key stage 4 students are well on the way to becoming fearless firefighters after a gruelling week learning the ropes at Rotherham Fire Station.
The Achievement, Respect and Confidence course was run by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue from the 24th – 28th of September and saw our students complete a week of intensive training. These young firefighters then showcased their new skills at their Pass Out Parade.
During the parade, which was attended by proud family members, Fire Service personnel and local dignitaries, including Mayor, Cllr Alan Buckley and Headteacher, Mrs Renavent, the new recruits carried out various practical firefighting demonstrations including challenging ladder climbing and a hose running drill.
The ceremony concluded with an inspection of the parade of young firefighters by the Mayor, and Fire Officer Gary Willoughby, who then went on to present each firefighter with a Certificate of Achievement.
Our students were a credit to the school, and should be very proud of their achievements-they showed grit, determination and resilience over the course of the week.
