Skyla Ainley, 10H, is part of Wakefield Acro gymnastics club elite squad and has just returned from the prestigious Flanders International Acro Cup in Belgium – one of the biggest acrobatic gymnastics competitions in the world.

She competed with her trio (Skyla, Freya and Maddy) in the age group 11-16 women’s group section against 42 other partnerships with representatives from several countries.

The competition involved each partnership performing two routines and the top 12 of these combined routines competed in the final on Sunday. Skyla and her partners qualified in first place coming first in both their dynamic and balance routines. All was to play for in the final as the scores go back to zero for the final on Sunday. The pressure on the girls was immense but they held their nerve and performed an amazing final routine obtaining their highest ever score and secure the GOLD medal.

This is an amazing achievement on the world stage!

It is a testament to the hard work and sacrifices these gymnasts make training 20 hours minimum each week.

Congratulations girls and we wish you the best of luck in the upcoming English Championships and Calgary Cup in Canada during May.
