Our students have been busy in their first week of home-schooling.  This is a new system for us all, and both teachers and students are trying to get used to new systems and methods of working, so thanks for the patience.  Teachers have provided them with an exciting mix of different activities whilst supporting them with home school technology such as Google Classrooms. Here are just some of the  activities our students have been completing:

English

In English, our Year 7 students have been continuing to read their class novel and completing work to demonstrate their understanding. Our Year 8 students have been completing tasks to revise The Tempest, including Google Forms and creative tasks.

Politics & Economics

In Politics and Economics this week, our students have been following the political and economic impacts of the coronavirus.  Students are writing a blog post and reviewing the UK and global use of economic policies and their effects on the economy.

Art

In Art, students are completing some research into jungle themed Artwork. Students have been asked to make a moodboard of all of their favourite animals that you would find in the jungle. Some students have completed large moodboard drawings with lots of drawings and information included.

Film Studies

In Film Studies, Year 10 students are starting their production work, so their teacher is really looking forward to being totally scared by the end of next term! Students should be researching a variety of horror films and planning their ideas based on the research they have completed.

In Year 9 Film Studies students are learning about Japanese culture by watching and working on a film called ‘Spirited Away’. Mrs Hale is looking forward to seeing some excellent work on the characters.

Modern Foreign Languages

In MFL lessons this week, Year 8 pupils in Spanish have been looking at the school topic. This week students will be designing their own uniforms so we can’t wait to see their ideas!

Year 10 pupils are completing their town and identity topic with presentations on Madrid including recommendations on what attractions to see.

PE

In PE, our students have been encouraged to take part in Joe Wicks’ 9am PE class every day and we have set up an instagram account: @WickoPE to show students some ideas on how to keep active.

Our Year 9 Sports Studies have been researching into the provision of outdoor activities in the UK, and the Year 10 GCSE PE classes are looking at the characteristics of skilful movement.

Materials Technology

Year 11 Materials Technology students have been finishing off their evaluations at home. It’s such a shame they didn’t quite get to finish them in school, but we are so proud of all they have achieved and their continued efforts to see the project through to the end. Well done!

Year 10 Materials Technology pupils have been brushing up on their theory knowledge, learning about CAD CAM processes.

Year 11 Materials Technology students have been finishing off their evaluations at home. It’s such a shame they didn’t quite get to finish them in school, but we are so proud of all they have achieved and their continued efforts to see the project through to the end. Well done!

Performing Arts

In Performing Arts, Year 10 students are completing their Everybody’s Talking about Jamie review and their ‘Making of the Musical’ task for their Component 1 coursework. They’re utilising all of the brilliant resources from the ETAJ website!

Year 9 students are learning the basics of script study that they will tackle properly for their Year 10 Component 1 coursework next year. So far we are looking at a famous play or musical.

Food Donations

Our students, staff and parents have also been working hard to support our community during this difficult time and they have been delivering care packages to the elderly and most in need families within our community.  We are still taking donations of food items, so please continue to support us by dropping your donations into school reception during school hours.
