South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Y7 Champion 2017

This weekend Joshua Gilbert in 7R represented Wickersley School and Rotherham at the South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships. Joshua won his event and is now the South Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Y7 Champion 2017. This is the pinnacle event after a very successful school cross country season in his first year at Wickersley. He received a certificate for his efforts presented by Peter Elliot and Mayor Lyndsay Pitchley.

During the school Cross Country season, he has represented Wickersley at 5 league races; he came 1st in three of these and 2nd in the other two. He then went on to represent Wickersley at the Rotherham Schools Championship which he won. This then allowed him to go through to Saturday’s South Yorkshire Schools Championship which he also won.

This comes after a very successful year outside of school with the Rotherham Harriers & Athletics Club, in which he won a silver medal in the South Yorkshire Cross Country Championship and a bronze medal in the South Yorkshire Cross Country League. He also won a silver medal in the Northern Athletics Cross Country Relays and also represented Rotherham at numerous Regional, County, Northern and National events.
