Chemistry Students Visit Sheffield University
Thursday 14th July 2016

A-Level Chemistry students recently visited Sheffield University Chemistry outreach labs. During the session they used equipment not available in schools to synthesize and purify paracetamol. This allowed students to experience undergraduate Chemistry labs, whilst using techniques they’ve only learned about in theory, such as reduction, acetylation, vacuum filtration and recrystallisation.

All groups submitted their samples for testing, this data will be then sent to Wickersley where the pupils can analyse their results in lessons. The pupils said that they enjoyed the day as they got to apply things they’re learning about in lessons and use new equipment.
