RSC Young Analyst Competition
Science
Thursday 6th February 2020

Last Thursday a team of three exceptional Year 12 chemists, Ridwan Arefin, Anna Dickinson & Will Middleton, took part in the regional heats for the Royal Society of Chemistry Young Analyst Competition and achieved second place whilst up against some stiff competition.

The competition required them to make use of complex and unfamiliar lap equipment, such as flame emission spectrometers and photospectometers, alongside familiar techniques such as titration in a race against time. They analysed the data collected from multiple samples and used this to answer detailed calculations based on the destruction of coral reefs.

The students performance as a team was excellent and showcased their competitive spirit and passion for Chemistry in the best possible way. Their achievement is something to be very proud of!
