On Thursday 8th March Wickersley hosted the first ever Rotherham Schools Girls Football Cup Tournament coinciding, quite aptly, with International Womens Day. The event involved ten Rotherham Schools, 15 squads and over 160 girls playing competitive football across Year 7-11.
Rotherham United Community Sports Trust kindly manned a shooting inflatable for pupils to use while waiting for their games and donated free tickets for the three winning squads for this week’s Rotherham Utd v Rochdale game.
The winning teams were presented with their trophy and certificates by special guest, Samatha Tierney (Doncaster Belles, England U’21).
We also had some amazing Year 9 sports leaders who helped to set up the event and did scoring, “running” and other errands to ensure that the event ran smoothly.
Wickersley finished close runners-up in all three age categories and played some fantastic football throughout the afternoon with some superb goals and excellent teamwork. We look forward to seeing them all at Sports Presentation Evening in July!
