Success at the Northern England Relay Championships

Several Wickersley pupils represented Rotherham Harriers in the Young Athlete Northern England Road Relay Championships at Sports City in Manchester at the weekend.

Year 8 pupil, Amelia Topliss (8P) was part of the silver medal winning U13 Girls Rotherham A Team that stormed home in 40 min 11 seconds over the 3 x 3.2km course. Amelia ran the final leg in 13 mins 38 seconds to bring the team home in second place out of a field of 42 complete teams. She was 14th fastest overall out of a total 140 runners.

Evie Thomson (8P) was on her first race back after injury and ran a time of 14 mins 52 seconds for the Rotherham C Team, taking 15th place.

In the U13 Boys race, Luke Parker, also Y8, was third fastest runner on his leg, and 13th fastest overall, out of 122 runners, with a time of 12 mins 29 seconds. The team placed 8th out of 38 complete teams in a time of 38 minutes 49 seconds.

George Ellis (Y7) ran the middle leg for the U13 Boys B Team in 14 mins 11 seconds in his first competition in this category. The team came 23rd in 42 mins, 48 seconds.

Lahana Vardy came home in 13 mins and 42 seconds for the U15 Girls team, to finish 20th out of 44 teams and Josh Gilbert ran 12 mins 39 seconds for the U15 Boys finishing 19th out of 37 teams.

They are all now looking forward to representing Rotherham at the National Road Relay Championships in Birmingham on 6th October.
