Y9 & Y10 Rotherham Rounders Champions
Tuesday 5th July 2016

On Saturday 25th June both Y9 and Y10 girls represented the school at the Rotherham Rounders finals day at Rawmarsh.

After finishing top of their group in the Y10 Rounders Tournament, the team were scheduled to face Wingfield in the semi final. The girls fielded tremendously well and off 20 good balls only conceded 1 1/2 rounders.

The team then batted well and had won the game after only 10 good balls. In the final the girls faced Oakwood who had displayed a very good performance in their semi final against Aston. Wickersley batted first and took full advantage of every scoring opportunity and finished on a score of 5. The team then again displayed a fantastic fielding innings and kept the opposition to 3 1/2. Therefore I am pleased to say Y10 are Rotherham Schools Champions.

The Y9 team also finished top of their group at the Rounders tournament earlier in the year and faced Wales in the semi-final. The girls batted first, after 9 good balls (1 bat) each the team had already scored 3 ½ rounders taking the pressure off slightly for their second bat. The girls batted exceptionally well and scored 5 ½. They then displayed brilliant fielding skills and held Wales to 2 rounders, progressing to the final. In the final they faced Aston, this time the girls fielded first and made some excellent decisions getting 4 players out and kept Aston at 3 ½ rounders.

Wickersley then went on to bat and yet again took every opportunity to score. By the 10th good ball they had already taken the lead and ended up finishing on 7 ½ rounder. It was a brilliant day and the girls played great as a team and a Rotherham Schools Champions.
