Sport
Wednesday 3rd October 2018

This summer Year 8 student Zak Daley competed in the World Hockey Championships which is one of the largest Hockey tournaments in the world. Zak successfully trialled for Team UK back in November 2017 and has trained week in week out Saturdays and Sundays, giving up most of his spare time in order to prepare for this competition and was also impressively chosen as Team Captain.

Zak left for St Louis Missouri on 25th July 2018. His U12s team was made up of the best players from each corner of the UK. The games ran over a two week period playing every team in his group, then once seeded they moved to the knockout rounds. The team played 2 to 3 games per day starting at 6am through to 11pm in the evenings.

Over the tournament Team UK faced Korea, Nebraska, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Columbia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Colorado, all very tough games. The team finished the games in a nail-biting playoff for third place and came out victorious bringing home the bronze medal.

Zak has now entered the GB Development Squad and is training for a major European tournament in 2019 and the Junior Olympic Games 2019. Well done Zak, a great achievement and good luck with the next competition.
