Well not quite elephants but the picture shows what confronted Jack Ryan (11J) as he was carrying out an invertebrate survey in the ecozone.

Research by James Woodland (11G) identified this creature as the caterpillar of the Elephant Hawk Moth!
The caterpillar is now living in a special caterpillar cage in Miss Branson’s room (C23) on her front bench. Hopefully it will soon become a pupa and then emerge as a fully grown Elephant Hawk Moth in a few months’ time.

Jack and James were carrying out survey work as part of their Environmental and Land Based Science (ELBS) course.
Later this term Y7 groups will be working in the ecozone and hopefully they will make further discoveries. Also, Wickersley Wildlife Group (WWG) will be having their first session in C4 at 3.15 on Wednesday 10th September.
