Monday 17th September 2012

The rearranged final’s day for 2012 eventually got played on September 15th after a wash out summer term! The sun shone brightly and all the Wickersley girls looked very smart and fully prepared in their kit.

The Y7 team played extremely well in the Rotherham finals day. They sailed through the semi-final beating Aston school with a strong fielding and batting performance. We played Dinnington in the final which we knew would be tough competition having previously played them twice in the run up to the tournament. We batted first and scored 2 and a half rounders against a very good fielding side. We then went on to field and the girls performed with real grit and determination. We managed to get 5 of the Dinnington players out and with 4 bats remaining we were in the lead. Unfortunately Dinnington managed to sneak a last rounder which took them into the lead and sealed victory for them. The standard of rounders play was extremely high and the girls should be really proud of their performance. Well Done! Runners up is a great result!

The Year 8 team faced Wingfield in the Semi-Final on Saturday which unfortunately resulted in their undefeated season coming to an end as Wingfield won the game 3 1/2 rounders to 2. The girls fielded very well which prevented Wingfield’s batting total exceeding 3 1/2. On change over Wickersley’s batting performance unfortunately didn’t reflect their true capabilities and only resulted in 2 rounders being scored. The girls then faced Maltby in the 3rd and 4th position play off and played fantastically well winning 5 1/2 to 1 rounder which was a much better reflection of their overall season performance. Well done girls!

The year 9 Rounders team made their route into the Rounders final to defend the Rotherham Champions title with an easy and straight forward win, reigning supreme over Matlby in the Semi-final. The first and strongest batter from the Maltby team struck her first hit and was unbelievably caught out by a switched on Lucy Winch who had the safest hands over the course of the tournament. Wickersley went on to play Aston in the final game and after wisely choosing to field first limited their rounders to 2.5. The girls were a class above the rest of the opposition and capitalised on the many fielding mistakes of their opponents, pressures every fielding decision and slogged the ball on numerous occasions. The girls won by a massive score of 9-2.5. Very deserving winners on the day and achieved a hat trick with them winning the last 3 years consecutively. Well done girls I am very proud of you all.

Y9 Squad: Becky Britten, Robyn Myers, Katie Morritt, Lucy Winch, Mollie Arif, Hollie Milner, Izzy Wheelan, Emily Walker, Geo Forster, Elle Bell

Y10 played against Oakwood in the first semi-final and they demonstrated a confident performance beating Oakwood 7.5 – 5. There was exceptionally strong batting from Emily Meadows and confident fielding from Chloe O’Sonya, Teigan Parker and Eve Cobbett. All girls played their part in getting the Y10 team through to the final but they then came up against an extremely strong Dinnington team and lost in the final 2.5 – 4.5. Both teams fielded really well but our batting was not strong enough against Dinington’s strong batting. Wickersley should still be proud of reaching the final. Runners up position is a great achievement.
