Twenty four talented year 8 girls have been hard at work designing and producing their very own ‘prototype’ souvenirs to celebrate the Tour de France visiting the Yorkshire region later this year.
All the teams had a number of design sessions where they investigated the design process. Each team arrived at a unique design proposal which they manufactured into a prototype in a workshop day. The teams made high quality products using a variety of manufacturing techniques including CAD/CAM. The products include hand decorated mobile phone cases, a laser cut clock and laser cut charms which are hand painted. One team worked with Miss Tidgwell in Textiles to create a very original blanket in a bag!
We would also like to thank the Sheffield Engineering Centre for loaning a sublimation printer and Oakwood High School for kindly allowing the girls to use their mug press. This allowed the girls to design and print their very own mugs with a unique Tour De France design.
The girls will be presenting these prototypes to a variety of industrial experts and business leaders in June at the New York Stadium in Rotherham, where the best designs will be provided with funding to manufacture the product for sale in the period between the 18th June and 6th July.
We are very proud of the final outcomes and thank the girls for all their hard work!
