Following on from a scintillating evening of outrageously talented performances, year 7 student Libby Howarth, after a tense pause was announced winner of W factor 2011.
Libby sang Whitney Houstons version of the Dolly Parton classic ‘I will always love you’, followed by ‘On my own’ from the hit musical Les Miserables, of which both were met with standing ovations from the audience.
Libby commented that she just wanted to “wow” the audience, and she certainly managed it.
Although the overall winner was Libby, the remaining 5 contestants should be extremely proud of themselves, setting the stage alight with hits by Pink, Björk, Cee lo Green etc. which in their own right could win any other competition including the X factor.
There was a special performance on the night from former pupil Laura Critchlow, who has been helping all the contestants out during the week with their vocal technique.
The show was recorded live and the produced album is available on iTunes at (link to follow) with proceeds going to Leukaemia research.
