The option to pursue an apprenticeship is increasingly a real opportunity for Year 11 students to consider. Apprenticeships are paid work that includes at least a day a week of formal learning at college – earn while you learn. Early indications show that 18 of our Summer 2018 Y11 leavers have secured an apprenticeship with career paths ranging from engineering to construction, business and sport to hair and beauty.
Apprenticeship opportunities range and the learning within them is equivalent to educational levels as follows:
Many local colleges offer the learning part of the apprenticeships available at Intermediate and Advanced Level. Sheffield Hallam University has just been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Apprenticeships at Higher and Degree Level and our local AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) has recently seen its first fully funded Degree Apprentices graduate from the University of Sheffield.
On our pages, there is a range of apprenticeship information and all students in Year 10, 11 and 13 have access to sessions on apprenticeship opportunities offered by various partners.
