Active Citizenship Day – Friday 13th May

In response to national and international situations, events, or disasters, we have introduced an active citizens day.

Our curriculum is enriched by a strong ethos based on respect for ourselves and others, equality, and opportunities to develop deep and sustained engagement and give students the capability to think deeply and critically for themselves. We are driven by our responsibility to ensure every student should be helped to develop a sense of personal and cultural identity that is confident and open to change, and that is receptive and respectful towards other identities. We believe every student should develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills that they need in order to participate in the wider context of an interdependent world.

The key international event at the current time is what is happening in Ukraine so this year’s Active Citizens day focussed on Peace and the World we Want. All activities were based on the UNICEF Global Goals.

During P1 students learnt about peace and what that means – they had to:
Investigate and recognize characteristics, actions, and symbols of peaceful activists.
Begin to determine ways to incorporate peace into the classroom environment and the world around them.

During P2 students learnt about ‘the world we want’ – they had to:
Discuss what the world looks like now
Design their own Utopia
Learn about Unicef and its goals

All students were engaged in their learning and embraced the topics, demonstrating their knowledge and understanding through discussion, debate, and questioning.
