Y7 Girls Football

On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 7 girls’ team travelled to Derby to face Murray Park School in the last 32 of the English Schools Cup.

Murray Park had not conceded a goal in their previous five rounds, but Wickersley rose to the challenge. The team took the lead twice in the first half, only to be pegged back on both occasions, with the match finely balanced at 2-2 at half-time.

Wickersley came out strongly in the second half, scoring early and creating several excellent chances. Two late goals sealed an impressive 5-2 victory. L Jenkinson scored a superb hat-trick, with additional goals from P Parkinson and L Inman securing the win.

The team now progress to the last 16 nationally and will travel to face either Madeley Academy in Telford or Witton Middle School in Worcester. A fantastic achievement – well done to all involved!
