Last week, Year 13 Double Applied Science students visited Sheffield Hallam University as part of their Unit 4 coursework, Synthesis of an Organic Solid.
During the visit, students had the exciting opportunity to use university level laboratory equipment to synthesise aspirin. This included working with individual fume cupboards, house vacuum lines, and magnetic stirrer hot plates, which gave them a valuable insight into practical science at a higher level.
The visit also included a taster lecture, where students learned more about studying science at university, followed by a Q&A session about university life. It was a fantastic and informative experience that brought their learning to life and helped prepare them for future study.
