On Saturday 21st March, the 2026 Rotherham Schools Football Finals took place at Wickersley School and Sports College. Wickersley had three teams competing in the finals this year, with the Year 7, Year 9, and First XI all representing the school.
The Y7 final was a closely contested match against Wales. Wickersley took the lead with a penalty and looked set for a 1-0 win, but Wales equalised late on with an excellent header, taking the game to penalties. After both teams missed their first spot kick, Wickersley held their nerve to score the rest, securing a 4-2 victory in the shoot out.
In the other matches, Wickersley’s First XI were beaten 3-0 by TRC, while the Y9 team narrowly lost 2-1 to Wales.
