A-Level History Essay Success

Year 12 students have now completed their first section of the Democracy and Nazism unit, focusing on the establishment of the Weimar Republic. They have been learning how to structure an A Level essay using mark schemes and past examples, culminating in their first full essay on how much of a threat the Communists were to the Weimar Republic. There were some excellent results, with half the class achieving a grade A*-B, showing a mature grasp of analytical writing and the period itself. A special mention goes to Lucas, who achieved an outstanding 21/25 on his essay!

Essay writing is a key part of the A Level History course, and the skills students develop are transferable across many other subjects. They also practise these skills verbally through structured debates in class. Students are now moving on to developing their source analysis skills as they prepare for the compulsory question.
