Moving Music – A Trip To The Orchestra ?

Wickersley and Clifton music Students from Years 8 to 12 attended a performance given by the world renowned Halle Orchestra at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.

The concert ‘The Orchestra Through The Ages’, featured pieces of music from the GCSE and A-Level music syllabi.

The performance demonstrated how the orchestra and compositions progressed from the Renaissance period (performing Susato’s Renaissance Dances’ to Classical & Romantic periods (Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto iii Finale & Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 2nd Mov) all the way through to the 21st century orchestra featuring Defying Gravity from Wicked and the Star Wars Theme. The performance also saw guest soloists from The Royal Northern Conservatoire.

The Students thoroughly enjoyed listening to their first live orchestral performance and were fascinated by the orchestral developments.

We look forward to more musical performances in the coming months.
